School start times to change for fall 2025
School board members voted unanimously on Feb. 20 to flip school start times for elementary and secondary students beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. Based on more than 20 years of research, board members anticipate the change will positively impact student achievement and improve student’s overall physical and emotional/mental health.
While originally proposed for next fall, district leaders recommended delaying implementation of new start times to give families time to make arrangements for childcare and other logistical changes. This will also give the district time to hire more childcare staff, design a Credit for Employment program so high school students have an option to work in childcare, and develop more Youth Enrichment and Targeted Services programming after school.
The following start times will take effect for the fall of 2025:
- Elementary schools: 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
- Middle schools: 8:35 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.
- High school: 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
- ALC and Transition: 8:55 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.
Review research and view resources related to start time changes.
